Magic xpi 4.14 Deployment Guide

Recommendations and step-by-step guidance for installing Magic xpi 4.14, deploying its In-Memory Middleware (IMM) on Kubernetes, and running projects in production.

Introduction

This guide covers deploying Magic xpi 4.14 and its underlying middleware, the new In-Memory Middleware (IMM) server. It walks through installing and configuring Magic xpi, installing the IMM, and integrating the two.

Understanding IMM Architecture and Terminology

The Magic xpi server is built on the In-Memory Middleware shipped with the xpi installer. The IMM is the messaging layer for the whole infrastructure.

IMM-Agent: every host running xpi project servers (also called xpi servers) needs the IMM-Agent running. The agent handles start and stop requests for xpi servers and performs their health checks. Agents on multiple hosts are unified and connected through the IMM.

The IMM itself is made up of these components:

ComponentRole
IMM-ControllerThe process the IMM-Agent communicates with. It accepts engine start and stop requests.
IMM-DBThe central repository for all operational data the IMM needs: xpi runtime data, project metadata, and real-time execution data.
LOGDBStores all activity logs generated by the xpi server.
IMM-TunnelThe web service inside the IMM that handles external requests (HTTP, TCP, and so on) and redirects them to the IMM-Controller. It does not replace the web server you need for HTTP triggers.
xpi MonitorThe central interface for health data about the IMM and its projects, including license usage, server load, and workers. Unlike earlier versions, the Monitor lives inside the IMM rather than being a separately installed service.
